In the early evening of February 8, 2022, the life of 37-year-old Jela Shermarke Marshall of Opelika, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Police responded to a call of a person shot in the 900 block of Morgan Avenue at approximately 6:42 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Marshall in the roadway, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lee County Coroner.
