On the evening of February 8, 2022, at approximately 6:42 PM, Opelika Police Officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 900 block of Morgan Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 37-year-old Jela Shermarke "Jela Baby" Marshall lying in the roadway. Lee County Coroner Bill Harris pronounced Marshall deceased at the scene.
