In the early morning hours of October 7, 2018, tragedy struck in Mobile, Alabama, when 23-year-old Deontae Davis, a male, was found suffering from a gunshot wound. The incident occurred in the 1600 block of Dexter Avenue, near Ladd-Peebles Stadium. First responders rushed Davis to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he later died.
The Mobile Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting, and their efforts quickly led to the identification of a
suspect. Just a few days later, in the pre-dawn hours of October 11, 2018, police located and arrested 19-year-old Michael Montgomery in the neighboring city of Prichard. Montgomery was subsequently charged with the murder of Deontae Davis. While an arrest was made, authorities did not release information regarding a possible motive for the shooting or the nature of the relationship between Davis and his alleged killer.
Following his arrest, the legal proceedings against Michael Montgomery began. He was granted bond on November 3, 2018. However, his freedom was short-lived. On February 3, 2019, Montgomery found himself in trouble with the law once again, this time facing charges of marijuana possession and carrying a pistol without a permit. In light of this new arrest, prosecutors moved to have his bond in the murder case revoked, and a hearing was scheduled to address the matter.
