In the early hours of May 15, 2021, the life of 17-year-old Harold Jordan III, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. The young man was visiting the Bayou Bend Apartments near Brill Road in Mobile, Alabama, when he was fatally shot. Mobile Police Department officers responded to a call of a person down around 12:30 a.m. and discovered Jordan suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of 17-year-old Jacorius McDonald in June of 2021. McDonald was subsequently charged with the murder of Harold Jordan III. In a development that brought both a conclusion to the legal proceedings and distress to the victim's family, McDonald later accepted a plea deal.
As a result of the plea agreement, Jacorius McDonald was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The terms of his sentence stipulate that he will not be eligible for parole. Following his release from prison, McDonald will be subject to five years of probation. The resolution of the case through a plea deal was met with anguish by Jordan's family, who voiced their opinion that the sentence was not sufficient for the crime committed. In the wake of their loss, the family has dedicated themselves to honoring Harold's memory through positive community action, including organizing a turkey drive to help others.
