On July 11, 2019, at approximately 2:28 a.m., Decatur Police Department officers responded to a welfare check on North Street in Decatur, Alabama. Upon arrival, they discovered 44-year-old Jason Edward Tapscott deceased from a gunshot wound.
Tapscott, affectionately known as "Coach," was a long-time devoted and inspirational coach for the Decatur Youth Programs. He was a beloved son and brother, a dedicated uncle to his niece and nephew, and a passionate Alabama Crimson Tide fan.
