On April 30, 2022, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Decatur Police Department officers responded to a disturbance in the 1000 block of 5th Avenue SW in Decatur, Alabama. Upon arrival, they discovered 42-year-old Charles Edward Baker Jr. suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Decatur-Morgan Hospital's Parkway Campus and subsequently transferred to Huntsville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
