On September 10, 1927, Deputy Sheriff Burns Almon of the Morgan County Sheriff's Office met his demise during a law enforcement operation. The incident occurred when Morgan County Sheriff B.E. Davis and four of his deputies, including Deputy Almon, approached an illegal still operation located east of the city of Decatur.
