In the summer of 2018, the life of 31-year-old Christopher Devon Preston was tragically cut short in Decatur, Alabama. On the evening of July 7th, Decatur Police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 200 block of 8th Street SW. Upon arrival, they discovered Preston, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Known affectionately as 'Chris' to his friends and family, he was remembered as a man who never met a
stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. A lover of music, he enjoyed singing and making beats. He was also a devoted fan of Auburn football. He was a father to two children, Zayonik and Katira Preston.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led detectives to identify a suspect, Brian Richard Belisle. Four days after the fatal shooting, on July 11, 2018, Belisle was located in Florence, Alabama, and taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with murder and booked into the Morgan County Jail, where he was held without bond.
Following his arrest, the legal process began. In March 2019, a Morgan County grand jury returned an indictment against Brian Richard Belisle, formally charging him with the murder of Christopher Devon Preston, in addition to other unrelated charges of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Receiving Stolen Property, Burglary, and Theft. As of early 2026, publicly available records do not indicate a trial date has been set or a conviction has been reached in the murder case.
