On July 4, 2020, 16-year-old Amari Elijah Deloney of Decatur, Alabama, was fatally shot during a late-night incident. The Decatur Police Department responded to reports of a shooting and found that Deloney had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was initially treated at Decatur Morgan Hospital before being transferred to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
