Rodney Fossett was a 21-year-old Black man whose life was cut short in Decatur, Alabama, during the summer of 2021.
On the evening of July 13, 2021, Decatur police officers were called to the Summer Courtyard Apartments at 2222 Arcadia Drive SW following reports of a shooting. They arrived to find Rodney suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Huntsville Hospital for treatment, where he fought for his life for several weeks.
On August 5, 2021, Rodney succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify three suspects who had fled Alabama. In August 2021, the first suspect, Keondrick Tyrek Boyd, was located by U.S. Marshals in Tarrant County, Texas, and extradited back to Decatur. A second suspect, 26-year-old Ayqueele Mickole Edmond of Fort Worth, Texas, was also arrested. Investigators identified her as the getaway driver for the shooting. The third suspect, 25-year-old Khamis Zakaria Yugusuk of Nashville, was located by U.S. Marshals in Nashville on October 15, 2021, and was also extradited.
All three individuals were charged with capital murder in connection with Rodney Fossett's death. Following his arrest, Boyd was booked into the Morgan County Correctional Facility and held without bond. In September 2022, a Morgan County grand jury indicted Boyd, Edmond, and Yugusuk on the charge of capital murder. As of that month, the case against them was proceeding through the legal system.
