Jarmaine Cardell Jones, a 27-year-old male, was killed on November 21, 2019, in Decatur, Alabama. The incident occurred outside an apartment complex where Jones sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing the shooter fire at Jones numerous times, even after he had fallen to the ground. In total, Jones was shot 11 times.
The investigation led to the arrest of Shadeed Abdul Fuqua, who was identified as the victim's 31-year-old cousin.
The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public. Following his arrest, Fuqua was charged with the murder of his cousin.
In October 2021, a Morgan County jury found Shadeed Abdul Fuqua guilty of the murder of Jarmaine Cardell Jones. During the trial, evidence was presented showing that Fuqua fired approximately thirteen rounds at Jones. In December 2021, a Morgan County Circuit Judge sentenced Fuqua to life in prison without the possibility of parole, citing the devastating and infuriating nature of the crime. Fuqua's legal team later appealed the conviction, but the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the murder conviction in a decision issued on September 30, 2022, ensuring that his life-without-parole sentence remains in effect.
