On a Sunday in the heart of spring, the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C. became the scene of a grim discovery. It was Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, when the body of a young man was found in the 2300 block of Ontario Road NW. Police were called to the location in the middle of the day, where they found the man had succumbed to significant injuries.
Authorities later identified the victim as 23-year-old Santos Jobel Martinez Umansor, a male resident of Northwest D.C. An examination determined that the cause of his death was blunt force trauma to his head and body, indicating a violent end to his life. The Hispanic man's death was officially ruled a homicide by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch, who then took charge of the investigation into the circumstances that led to his killing.
