In the late summer of 2020, the community of Greenville, Alabama, was unsettled by the discovery of a local man's body. On September 15, 2020, the remains of 31-year-old Antonio Simmons, a Black/African American male, were found on Joe Killough Road in Butler County. It was a tragic end for a man who was known as a dedicated worker at Hudson Funeral Home and a loving father to two daughters. The last time he was seen alive was around 4:30 a.m.
that same day at a local motel.
The Butler County Sheriff's Office quickly determined that Simmons's death was a homicide. An investigation revealed that he had been shot multiple times with a 9mm pistol, a detail that painted a grim picture of his final moments. For a time, the case remained without a public breakthrough. In an effort to generate new leads, CrimeStoppers offered a $2,500 reward in March 2022 for any information that would lead to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Simmons's death.
The investigation pressed on, and in April of 2023, there was a significant development. The Butler County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 37-year-old Joshua Senn of McKenzie, Alabama. Senn was subsequently charged with the murder of Antonio Simmons. Authorities accused Senn of shooting Simmons multiple times, ultimately causing his death. Following his arrest, Senn was held at the Butler County Correctional Facility, with his bail set at $400,000.
