Officer George Washington Bryan, a 46-year-old law enforcement officer, lost his life in the line of duty on June 10, 1904. The incident occurred in the Till Community of Butler County, Alabama, where Bryan was serving with the Greenville Police Department.
On the day of the incident, Officer Bryan responded to a residence to make an arrest. However, the suspect resisted and fired several shots, striking Bryan. He was critically injured and succumbed to his wounds five days later.
