In the summer of 2021, the community of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was shaken by the broad-daylight killing of 21-year-old Lorenzo Deairos Graham. On the evening of May 30th, Graham was at Snow Hinton Park with his one-year-old son when he was fatally shot. The public nature of the slaying, and the presence of his young child, sent ripples of shock and grief through the city.
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit quickly identified Davares Rayshun Grayson, also known as 'Ray Ray,' as the primary
suspect in the shooting. This identification sparked an intensive manhunt for Grayson, involving local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. For nearly three months, authorities searched for Grayson, who had fled the area. The U.S. Marshals Task Force took a leading role in the widespread search.
The manhunt came to an end on August 19, 2021, when Grayson was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Atlanta, Georgia. Following his capture, he was held in Georgia pending extradition back to Tuscaloosa County to face legal proceedings.
Due to the heinous nature of the crime, particularly the fact that Graham was killed in the presence of his infant son, the charges against Grayson were elevated to capital murder. Under Alabama law, a conviction for capital murder carries a potential sentence of either life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. Grayson was to be held without bond until the resolution of his case. Despite the initial flurry of media coverage surrounding the shocking crime and the subsequent manhunt and arrest, publicly available information regarding a trial, conviction, or final sentencing for Davares Rayshun Grayson in connection with the death of Lorenzo Graham has not been widely reported.
