On June 4, 2021, at approximately 5:10 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot at 4601 Eastlake Boulevard. Upon arrival, they found a vehicle that had collided with a chain-link fence. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered 27-year-old Briona Leshay Groom suffering from gunshot wounds. She was promptly transported to UAB Hospital for treatment.
