Death by Force

On the evening of September 17, 2021, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a single-vehicle accident in the 2800 block of Norwood Boulevard. Upon arrival, a community member informed them that the driver, 28-year-old Ashley Canty, had been shot. Officers found her unresponsive in the driver's seat; her vehicle had come to rest after striking a fire hydrant. Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported Canty to the hospital with serious injuries.
