In the small community of Pansey, Alabama, the quiet life of Hardy Lynn Gray, a 58-year-old Caucasian male, came to a violent end in late November 2021. A resident of Pansey, Gray was known as an electrician who owned and operated his own business. His absence from work on November 29, 2021, raised concerns among his coworkers, who then made a grim discovery at his home. Gray was found deceased, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso, indicating a homicide.
The investigation into his death would soon unravel a plot that involved several individuals who knew him.
The Houston County Sheriff's Office quickly launched a homicide investigation that led to a series of arrests. Investigators determined that the motive behind the killing was a planned robbery. One of the suspects, 34-year-old Cierra Lushanda Goodson, was acquainted with Gray and allegedly conspired with the others to rob him at his residence, where he lived alone. The attempted robbery escalated, resulting in Gray being shot multiple times with two different firearms.
Within days of the discovery of Gray's body, the first arrest was made. Cierra Lushanda Goodson was taken into custody on November 30, 2021. Over the following weeks and months, four other individuals were apprehended in connection with the murder. These included Mykeila Tyronese-Ariann Rowser, 21, and Elijah Patrick Hazell, 18, along with two juveniles, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, whose names were not publicly released due to their age. All five suspects faced capital murder charges for their alleged roles in the robbery and death of Hardy Lynn Gray.
The legal process for the accused began to unfold in the following year. In a significant development, Mykeila Rowser entered into a plea agreement. She pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of felony murder and, in November 2023, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Her plea deal reportedly required her to testify against her co-defendants. The trial for Cierra Lushanda Goodson on the charge of capital murder commenced in October 2025. If convicted, she faced the possibility of the death penalty or life in prison without parole. The trials for the remaining defendants were pending.
