In Mobile, Alabama, on the evening of May 30, 2022, 11-year-old LaQuinten Jerrin Morrissette, an African American male, was inside his home at the R.V. Taylor Plaza when gunfire erupted outside. A bullet pierced the residence on Duval Street, striking the young boy. He was rushed to a local hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries. His family remembered him as a kind, sweet, and playful child who loved to eat, play outside, and create TikTok videos.
The investigation into the
senseless shooting led to the arrests of four young men. The first to be taken into custody, on May 31, 2022, was 19-year-old Cameron Walker, who was charged with murder and three counts of shooting into an unoccupied vehicle. On June 7, authorities arrested 21-year-old Tyrik Dubose on charges of felony murder and three counts of shooting into an unoccupied vehicle. The third suspect, 20-year-old Anthony Jerome Shinn, was arrested on June 15 and faced charges of felony murder and three counts of shooting into an unoccupied vehicle in connection with LaQuinten's death, as well as separate charges for another shooting incident. The fourth and final suspect, 23-year-old William Anderson Jr., was arrested on July 18 and charged with felony murder and three counts of shooting into an unoccupied vehicle.
Prosecutors have indicated that the shooting stemmed from an altercation one of the suspects had with a friend of LaQuinten's mother. Following this dispute, the suspects allegedly pursued the individual to the area of the Morrissette home and opened fire. The case has been moving through the legal system, with a judge denying youthful offender status for two of the defendants, ensuring they would be tried as adults. While the suspects have been identified and charged, information regarding a trial, verdicts, or any subsequent convictions has not been made publicly available.
