In the early morning hours of July 14, 2022, the body of 34-year-old Gabriel Raynaldo Johnson of Ashford, Alabama, was discovered by a passerby on the side of the road at the intersection of Morgan and West Meade Streets in Dothan. Johnson had sustained at least one gunshot wound to his upper torso. Investigators believe he was killed at the same location where his body was found.
Neighbors in the area reported hearing gunshots shortly after midnight.
The investigation into Johnson's death led authorities to believe that he was the victim of a robbery. In the days following the discovery of his body, law enforcement officials took four individuals into custody in connection with the homicide. All four were charged with capital murder.
One of the suspects charged in the murder of Gabriel Johnson was identified as Rodriqus Holmes. In February 2024, a grand jury indicted Holmes on one count of capital murder. The case against Holmes and the other individuals charged is ongoing. Johnson was remembered by his family as a loving, caring, and energetic man with a big, beautiful smile and a big, beautiful heart.
