On December 3, 2022, 32-year-old John Arthur Burkus was fatally shot on the Phenix City Riverwalk in Alabama. Burkus, an avid outdoorsman, was walking his girlfriend's dog, Charlotte, when he encountered an ongoing shooting incident. He was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene. Charlotte fled during the incident but was found unharmed the following morning.
