In the quiet darkness of a Phenix City, Alabama evening, the life of a dedicated public servant came to a tragic and unexpected end. Sergeant Daniel V. Davis, a 30-year-old investigator with the Phenix City Police Department, passed away on November 10, 2013. His death was the result of a heartbreaking accident that occurred in the parking lot of his own apartment complex on Summerville Road.
After finishing his shift at approximately 10:00 p.m., Sergeant Davis was in the routine process
of removing his service weapons from his patrol car. It was during this familiar task that one of the firearms accidentally discharged. The single round struck him in the leg, inflicting a devastating injury by severing a major artery. The wound proved to be fatal, as he tragically bled to death before he was able to summon assistance.
Sometime later, his girlfriend, who was also a member of the Phenix City Police Department, discovered him and immediately called for help. However, it was too late to save the life of the eight-year veteran of the force. Sergeant Davis, who was described as a loving and devoted father to his daughter and son, was remembered for his passion for serving others, a commitment that was evident throughout his career in law enforcement. The investigation into his death concluded that it was an accidental, self-inflicted wound, and as such, there were no suspects or arrests in the case.
