On March 27, 2023, the grim discovery of human remains was made near a residence
on County Road 43 in the neighboring Macon County. The body was transported to the Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy. The examination confirmed the worst fears of those who knew and loved Sandrea; the remains were positively identified as hers. The cause of her death was determined to be a single gunshot wound, and her case was officially ruled a homicide.
