In the early hours of August 8, 2020, a domestic disturbance in a Chandler, Arizona, home escalated, leading to the death of 35-year-old Ben Beasley, a Black male from Phoenix. Chandler Police Department officers responded to reports of a fight between a man and a woman, followed by the sound of a gunshot, at a residence near East Saragosa Street and South Ithica Street at approximately 2:45 a.m.
Upon arrival, they discovered Beasley in the driveway with a gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported Beasley to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries about an hour later. The investigation that followed pieced together a narrative of a violent altercation. According to police, Beasley had been assaulting his girlfriend inside the home. During the assault, a juvenile present at the scene reportedly gave the woman a handgun at her request.
The conflict then moved outside, where Beasley allegedly attempted to run the woman over with a vehicle in the driveway. It was at this point that the woman fired the gun, striking him while he was in the car. All individuals involved in the incident were reported to have cooperated with the police investigation. In the immediate aftermath, authorities stated that no arrests had been made as they continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. There have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests or charges in connection with this case.
