On December 8, 2023, James Johnson, a 59-year-old security guard, was fatally shot while on duty at a 7-Eleven store located at 2350 Harrison Street in Oakland, California. The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. when Johnson confronted an individual attempting to steal merchandise.
