On August 10, 2024, 47-year-old Alfonso Javier Najera-Hernandez was fatally shot in Oakland, California. The incident occurred near East 15th Street and 12th Avenue in the Eastlake neighborhood, an area known for prostitution-related activities. According to police reports, Najera-Hernandez was driving in the vicinity when he was flagged down by two women, identified as sex workers. As he stopped, a man emerged from hiding and attempted to carjack his vehicle.
During the confrontation, Najera-Hernandez was shot and killed.
The Oakland Police Department swiftly initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of two suspects. Nineteen-year-old Shawn’t Lowe was identified as the alleged shooter and was charged with murder and carjacking. His accomplice, 19-year-old Nelly Dejesus Rodriguez-Diaz, was also arrested and charged with murder and carjacking.
