On August 30, 2016, Shawn Chatman, age 47, was killed in a tragic double homicide at Cesar Chavez Park in Oakland, California. Chatman and another victim were found shot to death in the park in what police described as a brutal execution-style killing. Witnesses reported that the two men were shot at close range, and the scene was especially shocking given its location in a public park.
