On August 14, 2016, Terrence McCrary Jr., a 22-year-old aspiring artist, was shot and killed outside an art gallery in Oakland, California. The shooting occurred during a birthday party attended by over 300 people in the Uptown district. McCrary was an innocent bystander caught in crossfire when gunshots erupted at the scene. Another individual, Craig Fletcher-Cooks, was also killed while attempting to protect his girlfriend during an altercation.
