In a tragic turn of events on the evening of March 10, 2024, 16-year-old Jaylan Montrell Collins, a Black male from Queen Creek, was fatally shot at the Snedigar Sportsplex in Chandler, Arizona. The incident unfolded around 9 p.m. near the northwest end of the park, where police responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered three teenage victims who had been shot. Collins was pronounced dead at the scene.
