On March 19, 2023, 19-year-old Gerald Jermaine Johnson Jr., a native of Selma, Alabama, and resident of Tuscaloosa, was fatally shot in the 1800 block of Alabama Highway 14 East. The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m.; Johnson was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
