In the predawn hours of a Tuesday in Selma, Alabama, a young life dedicated to service was tragically cut short. Marquis Dewon Moorer, a 25-year-old male police officer, was ambushed and fatally shot on July 27, 2021. He had returned to his residence at the Selma Square Apartments for his meal break at approximately 4:00 a.m. when an assailant opened fire on him outside the building. The attack also left his significant other wounded.
