On July 28, 2023, 37-year-old Demarcus Benjamin was fatally shot on Marengo Drive in the Alabama Village community of Prichard, Alabama. Responding officers discovered Benjamin with a single gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the shooting, two male suspects, described as one between 18 and 19 years old and the other between 30 and 40, fled in Benjamin's 2018 Chevrolet Impala, which was later recovered by investigators.
