On the night of September 12, 2023, 22-year-old Zion Brown was fatally shot while driving his car in Dothan, Alabama. The male victim was traveling near the 2300 block of Denton Road at approximately 10:30 PM when another vehicle pulled alongside his, and an assailant fired multiple shots into Brown's car. One of the bullets struck Brown, causing his vehicle to leave the roadway, cross through a vacant lot, and finally come to a rest on Murray Road.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Brown deceased. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
An intensive investigation by the Dothan Police Department led them to identify 22-year-old Kameron Zamir Head as the primary suspect in the shooting. Investigators determined that on the night of the murder, Head had seen Brown at a Marathon Gas Station and proceeded to follow him. He allegedly trailed Brown to an apartment complex and then waited for him to drive down Denton Road before pursuing him and opening fire. Evidence suggests Head fired six shots into Brown's vehicle. Authorities have indicated that Brown and Head had a prior history with one another.
Two days after the shooting, on September 14, 2023, law enforcement issued warrants for Head's arrest on charges of capital murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle. On September 19, 2023, Kameron Zamir Head surrendered to the Dothan Police Department. In October 2023, a judge in Houston County denied bond for Head. He later pleaded not guilty to the charges against him in March 2024. At the time of his death, Zion Brown was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Wesley Place nursing home and was studying to become a physical therapist.
