In the late morning of Friday, January 30, 2026, the life of 33-year-old Wesley Blake Bowen of Dothan, Alabama, was tragically cut short in what authorities have described as a robbery that escalated to murder. First responders were initially called to the 2700 block of Ross Clark Circle shortly before 10 a.m. following reports of a vehicle submerged in a retention pond. Upon arrival, they discovered Bowen deceased inside the vehicle.
A subsequent examination revealed that he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
According to the preliminary investigation by the Dothan Police Department, Bowen was driving his vehicle with a passenger when the tragic events unfolded. It is alleged that the passenger, in an act of robbery, brandished a firearm and shot Bowen. The incapacitation of Bowen caused his vehicle to lose control and crash into the nearby retention pond. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a Black male fleeing the area immediately after the crash, which prompted an extensive search by law enforcement.
The ensuing investigation, aided by witness descriptions and surveillance footage from the area, quickly led officers to a person of interest. While canvassing the vicinity, police located a man matching the suspect's description on Stonewood Drive, behind Farrah Circle. This individual was identified as 24-year-old Michael Tywuan Taylor of Ozark, Alabama. Near the location of his apprehension, investigators discovered a jacket and a handgun.
Michael Tywuan Taylor was taken into custody and has since been charged with one count of capital murder in connection with the robbery and shooting death of Wesley Blake Bowen. He is currently being held without bond. The Dothan Police Department has expressed gratitude to the community members whose information proved instrumental in the swift arrest of the suspect. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Bowen's death remains ongoing, and authorities have encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward.
