In the winter of 2019, the life of 54-year-old Andrew James Jones Jr. was tragically cut short in Dothan, Alabama. On the evening of January 19th, Jones was fatally shot on Powell Street, a violent end to a life that was remembered by loved ones as caring and devoted to his family. A graduate of Dothan High School's class of 1982, he was a beloved father to two children and a cherished brother.
His sudden death left a void in the community and launched a lengthy investigation by the Dothan Police Department.
For a year, detectives tirelessly pursued leads in the murder of Andrew Jones. Their investigation eventually centered on a single suspect, Joseph Hall, a 34-year-old resident of Dothan. Although he had been a person of interest for some time, investigators lacked the evidence needed to make an arrest. A significant breakthrough in the case finally provided the necessary pieces to secure an arrest warrant for Hall in January of 2020.
In a coordinated effort with the US Marshals, the Dothan Police Department executed search warrants on two residences on Linden Street. The Dothan Special Response Team utilized flash-bang grenades to enter one of the homes, where they discovered multiple firearms and a variety of illegal narcotics, including crack-cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and ecstasy pills. In the other residence, US Marshals located Joseph Hall and took him into custody without a struggle. Hall was subsequently charged with the murder of Andrew Jones and is being held without bond.
