In the early morning hours of January 2, 2023, the life of 48-year-old Richard Brandon Littlefield, a male resident of Dothan, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Police and paramedics responded to a 911 call reporting a possible suicide at the Highland Hills Apartment Complex on South Brannon Stand Road. Upon arrival at 3:10 AM, they discovered Littlefield with a single gunshot wound to his upper torso.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial call was made by Justin Tyler Marchozzi, a 31-year-old man who was the only other person present at the time of the incident. As the Dothan Police Department delved into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, the initial report of a suicide was quickly reclassified as a homicide. Investigators gathered evidence from the apartment and spoke with neighbors, leading them to arrest Marchozzi in connection with Littlefield's death.
Following their investigation, authorities charged Justin Tyler Marchozzi with one count of Murder and one count of a Certain Person Forbidden to Possess a Pistol. At the time of his arrest, a motive for the shooting had not been determined by law enforcement. The investigation was ongoing, though police indicated that no further arrests were anticipated in the case.
