In the late summer of 2020, the life of 18-year-old Majic Collins was tragically cut short in Dothan, Alabama. On the evening of August 25th, police responded to a call regarding a firearm assault in the 1300 block of Galaxie Drive. By the time officers arrived, Collins, a male, had already been transported to a local hospital by private vehicle. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The investigation into the shooting revealed a sequence of events
that unfolded with grim rapidity. Investigators learned that the shooter had approached the residence from a park located behind the house. Following a brief and seemingly innocuous conversation, the situation escalated dramatically, and gunfire erupted. Majic Collins was struck by multiple gunshots, leading to his untimely death. The young man was a student at Northview High School and would have been part of the graduating class of 2021.
Within days, the Dothan Police Department identified a suspect in the fatal shooting. On August 31, 2020, Darris Quinta Williams, a 17-year-old from Dothan, was apprehended. Despite his age, Williams was charged as an adult with one count of murder. His bond was set at $150,000. The arrest brought a swift, though not entirely conclusive, development to a case that had suddenly and violently ended a young life.
