On November 20, 1915, Deputy Sheriff H. Grady Granger of the Houston County Sheriff's Office in Alabama was fatally shot while performing his duties. Deputy Granger and a fellow deputy were attempting to search a buggy suspected of transporting whiskey, a common issue during that era due to prohibition laws. During the search, the suspect opened fire, resulting in Deputy Granger's death.
