In the early evening of January 7, 2024, the life of 33-year-old Vernica Searcy, a Black female from Montgomery, Alabama, was tragically cut short. First responders were called to the 3800 block of South Court Street around 6:20 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ms. Searcy suffering from a fatal gunshot wound and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Montgomery Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into the circumstances
surrounding her death. To date, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement has appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a break in the case.
In the days that followed her death, family and friends gathered to mourn the loss of Vernica Searcy. A visitation was held at Magnolia Cremations & Funeral Services, followed by a funeral service at Rigby Street Missionary Baptist Church, as the community came together to remember her life and await answers in her unsolved case.
