On the morning of March 17, 2024, a quiet stretch of Blocton Avenue in Birmingham turned into a crime scene when someone driving past noticed a man lying motionless outside a business at 6233 Blocton Avenue and called 911. Officers arrived shortly after 10 a.m. and found Eliazin Dominguez-Solis, 37, male, Hispanic/Latino, unresponsive outside the building. Birmingham Fire and Rescue came to the scene and pronounced him dead as investigators began treating what first looked like a “person
down” call as something far more deliberate.
As the first hours unfolded, detectives focused on the signs around the body and the circumstances of where he was found. Police said evidence at the location led them to believe the death was a homicide, and the case was assigned for a full investigation. In those early updates, authorities said no one was in custody while they worked to piece together who had been with him, what had happened in the moments before he was left outside, and which witnesses might have seen a vehicle or heard the violence that ended his life.
In the weeks that followed, investigators developed a suspect and took their case to prosecutors. Police reported that on April 8, 2024, detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, and after the review, they obtained a warrant charging Jose Roberto Pablo-Morales with murder. By then, police were describing Dominguez-Solis as having been shot and killed outside the same Blocton Avenue address where his body had been found.
The arrest came later that month, after authorities tracked the suspect down. The U.S. Marshals Service said its Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, working with the Birmingham Police Department, located and arrested Pablo-Morales on April 26, 2024, describing him as a man wanted for murder in a shooting death that followed a verbal argument in Birmingham on March 17. Birmingham police also reported the arrest happened with assistance from their Crime Reduction Team and the U.S. Marshals Service in the 900 block of 47th Place North, bringing the man named in the warrant into custody.
After the arrest, jail records reflected him being held as a pretrial inmate in Jefferson County, with booking originating from Birmingham Police. The public inmate detail listed a total bond amount of $80,000, while the police department’s media release stated he was in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond. As of those published updates, the publicly released charging decision centered on a single murder charge tied to Dominguez-Solis’s shooting death, and no additional suspects were announced in the official statements that identified the arrest.
