Kristy Jean Rogers, a 16-year-old from Crestview, Florida, disappeared in the early morning hours of August 2, 1997. On the evening prior, Kristy had told her family she would be spending the night at a friend's house, but instead stayed at her boyfriend's home. Her boyfriend, Mack Cawthon, reported that Kristy left his house around 5:00 a.m. to avoid being discovered by his grandparents, who lived next door.
Kristy's home was only a short distance away, about a fifteen-minute walk, but she never arrived, and she has not been seen or heard from since.
Initially, police suspected Kristy might have run away, but this theory was dismissed as time passed without any contact from her. Furthermore, Kristy left behind all her belongings, including medication for a kidney infection, which she required at the time. In February 1998, a bag containing her clothing and other personal items was found in a wooded area behind a local shopping center. The bag appeared to have been placed there after an earlier search of the area. Authorities believe Kristy may have been abducted by someone she knew, but her case remains unsolved.
Despite numerous searches and investigative efforts, Kristy's whereabouts remain unknown. Over the years, law enforcement has considered various leads, including potential foul play, but no significant breakthroughs have been made. Age-progression images have been released to show what Kristy might look like now, and her case continues to be actively investigated.
