On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at approximately 12:55 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 200 block of Avenue U in the Pratt community of Birmingham, Alabama. Upon arrival, officers discovered 29-year-old Christopher Rice, a Black male resident of Birmingham, lying near the sidewalk with a gunshot wound.
