On May 16, 2021, in Birmingham, Alabama, 34-year-old Brian Anthony Adkins and 35-year-old Courtney Jan Ashley were fatally shot near Brother Bryan Park. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. when officers responded to reports of two individuals being shot. Upon arrival, they found Ashley lying in the roadway with life-threatening injuries; she was transported to UAB Hospital, where she later succumbed to her wounds.
