On February 20, 2019, 23-year-old Ledarius Jaquad Peterson died following an altercation with his cellmate at the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham, Alabama. Peterson had been incarcerated since 2017, awaiting trial for the alleged murder of his roommate, Shunoah Seantel Turner, whom he was accused of bludgeoning to death with a hammer.
