Rodriguez Deonte Jones, a 25-year-old Black man, was discovered in the early hours of October 7, 2020, after firefighters were called to a vehicle burning in southwest Birmingham. The flames drew police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue to the 1300 block of McMillon Avenue, near the intersection of 14th Street SW and McMillian Avenue, just before 1 a.m., when the night was still quiet enough that a single car fire could pull the neighborhood’s attention toward the smoke.
