In the early hours of March 17, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Birmingham, Alabama street, leaving two young men dead. Leon Wyatt Jr., a 24-year-old Black male, was one of the victims in what police would later describe as a shootout. The incident, which also claimed the life of 24-year-old Kartece Perkins, unfolded in the 3400 block of Boise Avenue Southwest.
