In a tragic turn of events on the day before Thanksgiving, a domestic dispute in Birmingham, Alabama, escalated to violence, claiming the life of 20-year-old Donnie Edward Harris. The young man, identified as a Black male, was fatally shot on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, in the North Avondale neighborhood.
The incident unfolded around 3:30 p.m. in the 4200 block of 5th Avenue South. Officers from the North Precinct were dispatched to the scene following a report of a person shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered Harris inside a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel were also present and, after assessing his injuries, pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Initial investigations by the Birmingham Police Department indicated that the shooting stemmed from a domestic argument. A person of interest was taken into custody at the scene for questioning. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Shukeidra Harris, a 21-year-old Black female. She was formally charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Donnie Edward Harris.
Shukeidra Harris was taken into custody and booked into the Jefferson County Jail. A bond was set at $100,000. The case is proceeding through the criminal justice system.
