Dequaris Lydel Williams, a 31-year-old male, was fatally shot on January 14, 2021, in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident unfolded near Pinson Valley Parkway, from where Williams and another wounded individual managed to drive to a gas station to seek help. Emergency services transported both victims to UAB Hospital, where Williams ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the double shooting led the Birmingham Police Department to identify a suspect.
On February 23, 2021, authorities arrested Jamarcus Desean McIntyre. He was subsequently charged with murder for the death of Dequaris Lydel Williams and attempted murder for the injury of the second victim. McIntyre was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
However, the legal proceedings against Jamarcus Desean McIntyre would not reach a conclusion. On September 22, 2024, McIntyre himself was found shot to death in the East Lake area of Birmingham. His death was ruled a homicide, launching a new and complex investigation that would eventually link his killing to a series of other violent crimes in the city.
In connection with McIntyre's death, police later arrested several individuals, including Damen McDaniel, who has been charged in multiple homicide cases. While an arrest was made in the death of Dequaris Lydel Williams, the subsequent death of the primary suspect brought an unforeseen end to that specific prosecution.
