In the early hours of Sunday, August 30, 2020, the life of 29-year-old Christopher Shawn Vance, a Black male from Birmingham, Alabama, was tragically cut short. At approximately 1:20 a.m., Birmingham Police Department's West Precinct officers were dispatched to an apartment located at 1515 20th Place Ensley following a report of a person with a gun.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Vance unresponsive inside the apartment, positioned near the front door.
He had sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel. The initial investigation into the incident suggested that a physical altercation had occurred just before the shooting.
Detectives handling the case began a homicide investigation and noted that the circumstances surrounding the shooting appeared to be domestic in nature.
