On May 20, 2024, 21-year-old Genesis Barnett of Selma, Alabama, was fatally shot during a gathering at a residence on the 3700 block of Hilandale Drive in Valley Grande. The Dallas County Sheriff's Office reported that an argument at the party escalated, leading to over 20 gunshots being fired.
