On a late summer night in Alabaster, Alabama, a party abruptly turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy, resulting in the death of 27-year-old Rakeem Shields. The incident unfolded in the early morning hours of September 20, 2020, when gunfire erupted into a crowd of partygoers. Shields sustained fatal injuries and another woman was critically wounded by a gunshot to her head.
The investigation into the deadly shooting led Alabaster police to identify four suspects.
Authorities announced that Kajuan Robert Nelson Cassidy, Christian Dayne Thrift, Vontarious Dameko Brown, and Anfernee Jordan Brown were all facing charges in connection with the shooting. According to court records, the four individuals arrived at the party around 1:30 a.m. and began firing into the crowd.
Initially charged with attempted murder for the wounding of the female victim, the charges against the four men were later upgraded to include reckless murder and intentional murder for the death of Rakeem Shields.
